Privacy Policy
How we handle the personal information you share with SmartGringo.

Effective date:
This privacy policy has been compiled to better serve those who are concerned with how their ‘Personally Identifiable Information’ (PII) is being used online. PII, as described in US privacy law and information security, is information that can be used on its own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single person, or to identify an individual in context. Please read our privacy policy carefully to get a clear understanding of how we collect, use, protect, or otherwise handle your Personally Identifiable Information in accordance with our website.
What personal information do we collect?
SmartGringo sells nothing and takes no payments. The site asks for personal information in two places: the contact form (your name, email address and message) and the free checklist sign-up (your email address). Insurance quotes and purchases happen on the partner’s own site under its privacy policy.
When do we collect information?
We collect information from you when you fill out the contact form or request the checklist. We also record which partner links are clicked, so we can see which pages lead to a referral.
How do we use your information?
- To respond to inquiries you submit through our contact form.
- To send you the checklist you requested and occasional emails about Mexico travel and insurance, which you can unsubscribe from at any time.
How do we protect your information?
The site is served over HTTPS, so what you type into a form is encrypted in transit. Form submissions are stored with the service providers that host the site and send our email, and are accessible only to the people who operate the site.
Do we use cookies?
We and the third-party services we use set cookies and similar technologies for analytics (Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity). You can choose to have your computer warn you each time a cookie is being sent, or you can choose to turn off all cookies. You do this through your browser settings. If you turn cookies off, some of the features that make your site experience more efficient may not function properly.
Third-party disclosure
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your Personally Identifiable Information unless we provide users with advance notice. This does not include website hosting partners and other parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or serving our users, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may also release information when its release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect our or others’ rights, property, or safety. However, non-personally-identifiable visitor information may be provided to other parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses.
Third-party links
Occasionally, at our discretion, we may include or offer third-party products or services on our website. These third-party sites have separate and independent privacy policies. We therefore have no responsibility or liability for the content and activities of these linked sites.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to measure how the site is used. It uses cookies. Google’s own privacy policy explains its data use and opt-out options.
Behavior analytics (Microsoft Clarity)
We use Microsoft Clarity, a behavior analytics tool provided by Microsoft Corporation, to better understand how visitors use this site. Clarity captures anonymized session recordings (clicks, scrolls, page navigation, and similar interaction signals) to help us identify usability issues and improve the site experience.
What Clarity does NOT capture by default: passwords, credit card numbers, or any input fields marked as sensitive. IP addresses are masked. Clarity does not sell user data or use it for advertising on third-party sites.
Microsoft processes Clarity data per the Microsoft Privacy Statement: https://privacy.microsoft.com/en-us/privacystatement.
To opt out of Clarity tracking, use Clarity’s opt-out mechanism described in its documentation.
California Online Privacy Protection Act
CalOPPA is the first state law in the nation to require commercial websites and online services to post a privacy policy. According to CalOPPA, we agree to the following: users can visit our site anonymously; our privacy policy link is accessible from the home page; you will be notified of any privacy policy changes on this page; and you can change or delete your personal information through our contact page.
Do Not Track signals
The site does not currently respond to Do Not Track (DNT) browser signals. We allow third-party behavioral tracking by the services named above.
COPPA — children under 13
We do not specifically market to children under the age of 13.
Fair Information Practices
In line with Fair Information Practices, should a data breach occur, we will notify users via in-site notification within one business day. We also agree to the Individual Redress Principle.
CAN-SPAM Act
We collect your email address in order to send the checklist you requested, respond to inquiries, and send occasional emails about Mexico travel and insurance. We agree not to use false or misleading subjects or email addresses; to identify the message as an advertisement in some reasonable way; to include the physical address of our business or site headquarters; to monitor third-party email marketing services for compliance; and to honor opt-out and unsubscribe requests quickly. If at any time you would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails, follow the instructions at the bottom of each email and we will promptly remove you from all correspondence.
